Points of Engagement

Employee engagement seems to be the new buzz, popping up all over organizations. Many think that employee engagement is only important for peripheral reasons; …that is, we all want happy, satisfied employees that care about their jobs. However, many times it is not at the top of management's priority list.

Consider this: the latest research tells us that employee engagement is the number one link to customer satisfaction. That's right, the ways in which customers link their satisfaction to a particular organization and its products/services is determined more by their perception of employee engagement with that organization, than any other factor, including price, quality, service…anything. That makes employee engagement a huge issue for your business today.

This concept of engagement speaks to the idea that we want our employees to view themselves as "partners" in the business, with full ownership of their job. Whether that job is meeting the needs of internal customers or providing direct services to external customers, an engaged employee feels a connection to the organization that is much stronger than "that's my job eight hours a day"; a connection that breeds enthusiasm, commitment, loyalty, and dedication in mind and spirit.
